National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Watch for Schuylkill County on Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Temperatures as low as 26 degrees overnight could cause crops to die and damage any outdoor plants. Anyone with outdoor crops should take steps to protect their assets from the freezing temps expected on Monday night.
The freezing temps Monday night certainly are a departure to recent conditions here in the coal region, which experienced summer-like highs over the past week. But this sudden cold snap should be short-lived.
On Sunday, the expected high temperature in Pottsville is just 52 degrees. And while it won’t be freezing on Sunday night, it will be cold, with a low of 36 degrees.
Frost could form early Monday morning and the high temperature for the first day of the work week likely won’t hit 50 degrees. Unseasonably cold air sticks around on Tuesday as well, with a high of 53 degrees and a low of 39 expected.
However, on Wednesday, Spring-like air moves back in for the rest of the week, with high temps in the mid-60s to low-70s. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the 40s.
