A protest against the ICE detention center planned for Schuylkill County is scheduled for March 20 in Tremont.
According to a Mobilize web page, the demonstration is being organized by “a non-partisan group of citizens from the Tremont area” and will be held that Friday, from 4-6 p.m.
The rally against the ICE detention center will be centered at the red light in Tremont Borough, at Spring St. and Route 209, the page says.
“This is a peaceful protest. Bring any signs that will signify your specific interest as to why you oppose the ICE facility in Schuylkill County,” the announcement reads.
Schuylkill County Democratic Committee “has nothing to do with the event. We are only trying to promote the rally,” it continues.
On Feb. 2, the US government purchased the former Big Lots Distribution Center in neighboring Tremont Township. It plans to convert the warehouse into a 7,500-bed immigration detention center.
