Schuylkill County District Attorney Mike O’Pake touted his administration’s record on taking drugs off the streets as he was sworn in to another four-year term on Wednesday.
O’Pake took the oath of office surrounded by family in Courtroom 1 at Schuylkill County Courthouse. This will be his third term as District Attorney. He ran unopposed in the 2025 General Election and turned aside a challenge from John Urbanski in the Republican Primary.
At the beginning of 2025, O’Pake switched party affiliation from Democrat to the GOP.
In remarks after taking the oath of office, O’Pake spoke of the importance of public service and what the public expects of the people they elect to serve.
“When someone is elected, the electorate elects them believing that they can do a good job and trust that they will do a good job,” he said. “They have faith that that person will do a good job.”
O’Pake said his commitment to the office of District Attorney has been “unwavering” in his first eight years.
He said his administration has taken thousands of pounds of drugs off the streets in Schuylkill County and seized more than $600,000 in cash and assets from drug dealers in that time.
That money, he said, has been put back into the system to continue the fight against the drug epidemic here.
O’Pake praised his staff of ADAs who’ve helped his administration in its fight against drugs.
“I say that as often as I can because it’s hard work. It takes dedication and commitment. I have that with my entire staff in the District Attorney’s office,” he said. “I could not do the job I do without their help, hard work, and dedication.”
