Schuylkill County Man Charged with Felony in Domestic Dispute, Said He Peed on Floor of Holding Cell Because “My Kid Does It”

Nowicki-Santonastaso facing felony aggravated assault charge

A Schuylkill County man was jailed following an alleged domestic dispute earlier this week. While he was being processed and in a holding cell, police say he peed all over the floor.

Police in Orwigsburg say they were called to an apartment on Sunday afternoon, just after 1 p.m., for a report of a domestic altercation in progress. A woman on the line with emergency dispatchers reportedly was yelling and said her attacker had a gun in a bag.

As they arrived at the scene, police say they could hear yelling from inside an apartment. A woman answered the door, visibly upset, and said that Jason Nowicki-Santonastaso, 26, was acting out and throwing things.

Police say they detained Nowicki-Santonastaso in their patrol vehicle and through an investigation, learned that he allegedly got upset at being told to do something he didn’t want to do and assaulted the victim numerous times, causing her to suffer hip and head injuries.

Additionally, police say Nowicki-Santonastaso alleged threw and smashed items in the kitchen.

Nowicki-Santonastaso was taken back to the Orwigsburg Police headquarters and placed in a holding cell for processing. While he was being detained there, police say Nowicki-Santonastaso peed all over the floor despite there being a working toilet in the room.

Police say they asked Nowicki-Santonastaso why he peed on the floor instead of using the working toilet, he reportedly said, “My kid does it.”

Nowicki-Santonastaso was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli on Sunday afternoon and charged with felony aggravated assault as well as misdemeanor counts of simple assault and attempted institutional vandalism, as well as a summary offense for harassment.

Tarantelli set bail at $25,000 and Nowicki-Santonastaso was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for District Court in Orwigsburg on Feb. 3.
