Schuylkill Technology Center will host open house events at the STC North Campus, 101 Technology Drive, Frackville, and the STC South Campus, 15 Maple Ave., Mar Lin, on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The open house is an opportunity for prospective students, current students, parents, industry partners and post-secondary colleges to come together to experience all that career and technical education has to offer. The theme for this year’s event is “Work Ethic Matters,” to highlight professional qualities that STC strives to instill in its students.
At the South Campus of Schuylkill Technology Center, visitors can expect to tour the plumbing, welding, carpentry, residential industrial electricity, precision machine trades, auto collision, culinary, computer information systems, marketing and business administration, criminal justice, supply chain and warehouse distribution, and cosmetology programs.
The school will have hands-on activities in each program area available for prospective students to get a better sense of the type of training they will receive. Visitors at the South Campus may tour the newly re-branded supply chain and warehouse distribution program, formerly known as logistics. This program teaches students the critical tasks of picking, packing, forklift operation and inventory management.
Visitors may visit with the food service occupation program instructor, Tom Wood, and learn more about this new program. This program operates a commercial kitchen where students gain hands-on experience needed for competitive employment in an entry-level position in the food industry. This program includes additional support necessary to foster success for each individual educational plan.
At the North Campus of Schuylkill Technology Center, visitors can expect to tour the diesel, automotive technology, outdoor power technology, masonry, carpentry, electro-mechanical technology, health careers, emerging health professionals, culinary, and early childhood care and education programs.
STC will also showcase the new heating, ventilation and air-conditioning program which opened last school year. The STC adult education program staff will also be on site during this event to meet with prospective adult learners seeking training in CDL, automotive technology, medical assisting and practical nursing. Medical assisting students will be offering free blood pressure screenings.
The event is free and open to the public. A FireTV will be raffled off to prospective students who bring their invitation postcard. The STC culinary programs will have food for sale in both buildings. Upcoming events at STC include the STC Car Show at the South Campus on Oct. 19 and Trunk or Treat at the STC North Campus on Oct. 29.
