A former treasurer in Tremont Township entered a guilty plea this week on a theft charge.
Rhiannon Adams, 41, was sentenced to 5 years of probation after she admitted to stealing more than $22,000 from Tremont Township between April 2023 and March 2024.
Adams used a township credit card to make personal purchases, including from Straight Talk Wireless, Amazon, Park Lane Jewelry, PayPal, Walmart, Burger King, Securus Inmate Call, and to a jewelry store based in Japan.
She also forged the signature of township officials on checks and cashed them.
In total, Adams stole $22,572.63. That money has since been repaid.
Part of Adams’ sentence includes not having contact with Tremont Township officials. In order to contact the township, she must first get permission from her probation supervisor.
Adams was facing multiple charges but ultimately agreed to plead guilty to a single charge of theft. In addition to paying restitution, Adams must also complete 50 hours of community service.
