Spooky Schuylkill 5K Draws 200+ Participants

More than 200 people converged on Landingville Saturday morning to participate in the Spooky Schuylkill 5K.

The event is hosted by Schuylkill Connects and this year was the thirteenth running of the race. Many of the participants ran the road and trail course in a Halloween costume. Even a few dogs participated.

According to Schuylkill Connects executive director Mandy Fitzpatrick, this year’s version may have been the most popular with the amount of race participants and spectators.

She said when she first started at what was then called Schuylkill County VISION, the Spooky Schuylkill 5K had less than 100 runners and almost no spectators.

“LVHN was here with bells, so there was a lot of noise for the runners,” Fitzpatrick said.

Fitzpatrick thanked the board of directors at Schuylkill Connects, the event sponsors, the borough of Landingville, and Landingville Fire Co. for allowing use of their parking lot.

“They make this day run pretty smoothly,” she said.

Event sponsors include Lehigh Valley Healthy Network/Jefferson University, Explore Schuylkill, Hidden River Credit Union, Hess Catering, Koch’s Turkey Farm, Boyer’s Food Market, Marshall, Bohorad, Thornburg, Price & Campion, P.C., Solar Innovations, CACL, Mauch Chunk Trust, Power Wellness Consultants LLC, Cotts Inc, Spotts Insurance, and Tompkins.

As for the race, 15-year-old Cameron Jones was the top overall finisher and 14-year-old Genevive Dando was the top female finisher.
