A Schuylkill County man is facing an assault charge after he allegedly struck a man in the head with a 2×4 during a dispute over a cat carrier last month.
Mark Morales, 32, of Pottsville, is charged with simple assault. The incident, police in the city say, happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. on March 19 behind a smoke shop on Logan St.
According to police, Morales called and texted the victim, stating he was coming to the shop because of an ongoing argument regarding a cat carrier. Morales arrived behind the shop while the victim was in the basement, held a 2×4, and challenged the man outside to fight.
The victim told police he willingly left the basement to confront Morales. Morales then struck the victim on the left side of the head with the board before fleeing on foot, according to police.
The victim sustained a visible head injury that did not require immediate medical attention, as well as small lacerations on his hands from trying to block the blow, police say.
An initial search of the area for Morales came up empty. He’s been ordered to appear at a preliminary hearing on the assault charge on May 4.

This is defamation of characters and now ya can expect to be sued I expect nothing less from this poor state… just to believe a story like and not bother to investigate there is cameras of the incident and police refuse to do there job I was led there i have voice messages proving so and I definitely didn’t walk there with no no 2×4 I was told by this fake victim to showed up to where he was working with working with 2×4 I never entered the premises he came charging out the basement with a 2×4 and I pushed the weapon back at him as he attempted to come out the basement and I ran leaving my jacket and sweater as he came out and chased me eventually throwing the 2×4 at me and to lie and say search for me came empty I called the precinct the next day and the following Monday when the Sargent Webber return to work and sent him the the death threats which is a voice message by the way and voice message of him tell me to come fight with his location that I sent to Sargent Webber and when Sargent Webber asked me for a mailing address I told him the pottville tobacco which he already knew from the previous day that he stopped me stated to him all my mail and information was at the store when he wasn’t able to verify my identity I also stated to him I was homeless at the moment I’m not running I could come in if needed and his reply was hes wasn’t trynna arraign me he just needs a address so he can send me a court summons for simple assault I reminded him the store and told him he had a falsifyied report and told him there video of the incident at the eagle tavern and witnesses
