Nahas Promoted to Double-A Smokies, Blankenhorn Cracks 2 More Homers, Crawford Ks 4

Here is our weekly roundup of Schuylkill County players currently playing with Major League Baseball organizations in the 2024 season.

Joe Nahas (Marian Catholic) – Pitcher, South Bend Cubs

On May 4, Nahas was promoted from the High-A South Bend Cubs to the Double-A Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League. 

He has not appeared in a game since April 28.

For the season, Nahas has appeared in relief in 6 games and has worked 11.1 innings, recording 2 saves. He’s struck out 11 batters and sports a 2.38 ERA.

Travis Blankenhorn (Pottsville Area) – Outfield, Rochester Red Wings

Blankenhorn continued his power-hitting streak last week, adding 2 more home runs to his season’s total of 9. Those 2 homers were part of a 3-hit week for Blankenhorn in 19 at-bats, which dropped his season average to a not-so-shabby .283. 

So far this season, Blankenhorn is hitting for a .283 average, a .367 on-base percentage, and has a .980 OPS. He’s smacked a team-high 9 home runs with 25 RBI. He’s also stolen 2 bases. 

Reggie Crawford (North Schuylkill) – Pitcher, Richmond Flying Squirrels

Last week, Crawford appeared in relief during a May 3 game against the Akron Rubber Ducks. Crawford struck out 4 batters in 2 innings but hit 1 batter. He allowed no hits, no runs, and didn’t walk anyone. 

This season, batters are hitting .120 against him over 7 innings of work in 5 games. He’s got 12 strikeouts and a 2.57 ERA. His record on the mound is 1-1.
