When the Schuylkill Haven Area Hurricanes take the field Friday night at Mahanoy Area, they’ll do so without the services of their head football coach.
On Wednesday, Schuylkill Haven Area School District announced it had suspended head coach Mike Farr for two games for violations of the football program’s Code of Conduct. The school has not disclosed why, specifically, Farr has been suspended. John Carestia Jr. will take over head coaching duties in Farr’s absence over the next two games.
In a statement, Schuylkill Haven Area Superintendent Shawn Fitzpatrick said, “The Schuylkill Haven Area School District has placed the head football coach on a two-game suspension for violating the program’s Code of Conduct. The District takes its responsibility to provide students with a safe, respectful and positive environment seriously, and holds its coaches responsible for any actions that fall short of these standards. The District took prompt action in response to allegations made.”
Fitzpatrick declined to comment on what allegations were made against Farr as well as the steps that have been initiated to investigate them, saying it was a personnel matter.
The superintendent also declined to comment on speculation and rumors regarding the reason for Farr’s suspension and discouraged anyone from believing things they’ve read on social media or elsewhere regrding the reason for the suspension.
