Borough Approves New Trash Hauling Contract

Frackville chooses low bid from Anthracite Waste.

Frackville council members unanimously approved a 5-year contract for a new waste hauler starting next year.

On Thursday, Borough Council accepted the bid of Anthracite Waste Services for $2.52 million. The company was the lowest of three bids received.

Frackville also received 5-year bids from Casella Waste Systems ($2,593,669) and JP Mascaro & Sons ($3,900,540), which were presented to the public at July’s regular council meeting. The Borough was also presented 3-year bids but council members chose the longer-term deal. Casella has been Frackville’s trash hauler.

The deal with Anthracite Waste goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2027.

Council members said the total of the contract is more than its current deal with Casella but couldn’t provide a monetary difference at Thursday’s meeting. How the new contract will affect customer trash bills will be calculated as council members consider their 2027 budget, they said.
