Schuylkill County Woman Accused of DUI Homicide in July 4 Crash That Killed Motorcycle Rider Appears in Court

Charges against Trygar waived to Schuylkill County Court

A Schuylkill County woman charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI in the death of a Shenandoah motorcyclist waived her right to a preliminary hearing on Thursday.

Dalilah Trygar, 31, of Mahanoy City, waived the hearing before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker in Shenandoah. The waiver sends her case to Schuylkill County Court in Pottsville for further proceedings.

Trygar faces a first-degree felony count of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, vehicular homicide, DUI, involuntary manslaughter, careless driving resulting in unintentional death, reckless driving, and several summary traffic offenses in the July 4 crash that killed 62-year-old John Coleman, of Shenandoah.

At Thursday’s hearing, the Schuylkill County District Attorney’s Office amended the DUI charge to note Trygar’s alleged BAC of 0.151%.

Trygar remains free after posting 10% of $100,000 bail. She was arraigned July 5 and released from Schuylkill County Prison the following day.

State Police say the crash happened just before 8 p.m. on Route 54, also known as Suffolk Rd., in Mahanoy Township.

A witness told police he was traveling west on Route 54 with Trygar’s 2016 silver Subaru Legacy behind him. The witness said Trygar’s vehicle entered the eastbound lane and collided head-on with an eastbound 2021 Royal Enfield motorcycle, police say. Trygar’s vehicle then struck the witness’s vehicle.

Coleman suffered significant trauma and was pronounced dead on the shoulder of the roadway, police say.

When police made contact with Trygar, the arresting officer said she had bloodshot, glossy eyes and an odor of alcohol emanating from her breath, police say. Trygar told investigators she had just dropped her daughter off and was traveling from Mahanoy City to Shenandoah when the crash occurred.

Trygar told police she tried going around the vehicle ahead of her and accidentally hit the motorcycle. She also said she had one Corona and one shot of Crown Apple before getting behind the wheel.

After standardized field sobriety testing, which police say showed multiple indicators of impairment, Trygar submitted to a preliminary breath test and was taken to LVHN-Schuylkill for a blood draw.
