Cressona is planning a full day of celebration with a purpose. Actually, two purposes: to celebrate America’s 250th birthday and to raise money for the Pool Restoration Project.
This Saturday, Cressona Cares Committee is hosting a trio of events, a fun run, a motorcycle and car show, and a community block party.
The festivities kick off in the morning and continue well into the evening. All money raised from these events will be put toward the pool project. Cressona was forced to close its community swimming pool last year due to damage caused by a harsh winter. The pool remained closed this year and it’s likely to stay closed through 2027.
Splash Dash 2.50 Fun Run/Walk
The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with the Splash Dash 2.50, a 2.5-mile fun run and walk that takes participants around Cressona, starting and finishing at the Cressona Pool complex.
Registration costs $30. Organizers say sign-ups are still open for anyone who wants to take part. Runners and walkers can register at runsignup.com/Race/PA/Cressona/Dash4Splash. A virtual option is also available for supporters who can’t make it to Cressona in person but still want to contribute to the pool project.
Motorcycle and Car Show
Later in the day, engines will take over as part of the Motorcycle and Car Show, held in connection with the block party. Pre-registration opens at 9 a.m., with general registration running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and awards handed out at 4 p.m.
Beyond the vehicles on display, the show will feature pin striping, tattoos, live music, and food and refreshments for spectators. Entry costs $25, and anyone interested in showing their ride can register through Hot Rod Bar & Grill.
Cressona Block Party
The Cressona Block Party is a free community celebration running from noon to 7 p.m. along Front St. The party is open to everyone, no registration required, and promises a lineup of live music sponsored by Hot Rod Bar & Grill, along with food trucks, community craft vendors, local artists, and a kids zone.
Check the Cressona Cares Committee Facebook page leading up to the event.
