Schuylkill County Woman Facing DUI Vehicular Homicide Charge Following Fatal Motorcycle Crash

A Schuylkill County woman is facing vehicular homicide and DUI charges after police say she fatally struck a motorcyclist while attempting to pass a vehicle on Saturday.

Dalilah Trygar, 31, of Mahanoy City, was arraigned early Sunday on multiple charges, including a first-degree felony count of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. She was released from Schuylkill County Prison on Monday after posting 10% of her $100,000 bail.

State Police say the crash occurred just before 8 p.m. on Route 54, also known as Suffolk Rd., in Mahanoy Township.

A witness told police he was traveling west on Route 54 with Trygar’s 2016 silver Subaru Legacy traveling behind him. The witness said Trygar’s vehicle entered the eastbound lane and collided head-on with an eastbound 2021 Roy Enfield motorcycle, police say. Trygar’s vehicle then subsequently collided with the witness’s vehicle.

The operator of the motorcycle suffered significant trauma and was pronounced deceased on the shoulder of the roadway, police say. They have not yet been identified.

When police made contact with Trygar, the arresting officer observed she had bloodshot, glossy eyes and an odor of alcohol emanating from her breath. Trygar told investigators she had just dropped her daughter off and was traveling from Mahanoy City to Shenandoah when the crash occurred.

Trygar reportedly said she tried going around the vehicle ahead of her and accidentally hit the motorcycle. She also told police she had one Corona and one shot of Crown Apple before getting behind the wheel.

After complying with standardized field sobriety testing, which police say showed multiple indicators of impairment, Trygar submitted to a preliminary breath test at 8:30 p.m. and registered a .158. Trygar was placed under arrest and transported to LVHN-South for a blood draw.

In addition to the vehicular homicide and DUI charges, Trygar faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, careless driving resulting in unintentional death, reckless driving, and several summary traffic offenses.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 16 before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker.
