Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Schuylkill County

In effect until 11 p.m.

National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Schuylkill County. It’s in effect until 11 p.m. Saturday, July 4.

A Heat Advisory also remains in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday.

Forecasters say thunderstorm activity through Saturday night should mirror what happened on Friday. Storms on Friday knocked out electric service to thousands across Schuylkill County.

Power has been restored to much of the area, however there are still a reported 110 outages in Schuylkill County, as of 5:30 p.m. Saturday, with the most being reported in North Manheim and Upper Mahantongo townships as well as Pottsville.

More widespread thunderstorm and rain activity is expected on Sunday into Monday, with heavy rain possible. The persistent heat wave over the past week should also break on Sunday, though it will remain rather warm, with highs approaching 90 degrees.

On Monday and Tuesday of next week, high temperatures are not expected to top 80 degrees.
