America250 Festivities Start This Weekend in Pottsville: Parade, Fireworks, Picnic Info

Events on Friday and Saturday

The Schuylkill County America250 festivities get underway this weekend in Pottsville.

The big event is a parade through downtown Pottsville from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday but events get underway on Friday evening with a kickoff event at the Capitol parking deck followed by a fireworks display over the city.

On Friday at 6:30 p.m., an All-American picnic is planned at the Capitol parking deck, at Progress Ave. and E. Race St. Tickets for the event (available here) are $50 and features a menu of hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, and Yuengling beers. Organizers say this event offers the best view of the fireworks on Friday night.

Then, on Saturday, is the big parade. Schuylkill County’s America250 parade steps off at 11 a.m. at 18th and W. Market streets. The parade will go east on W. Market St. to N. 2nd St. and make its way to Mahantongo St., then east onto Centre St., heading north toward Arch St.

The parade will be held rain or shine.

From noon until 5 p.m., an America250 celebration will be held at the parking lot of Alvernia University’s Pottsville CollegeTowne campus. This event is free and open to the public. It’ll feature live music, food and drink vendors, games and family activities, and historic reenactors.
