A Schuylkill County man is facing criminal charges after police say he used a key to enter his neighbor’s home while she slept and stole gift cards.
Cody Lee Moyer, 39, of Schuylkill Haven, has been in custody since his arrest on May 31. He’s being held on 10% of $15,000 bail and facing felony charges of burglary and criminal trespass as well as a misdemeanor charge of theft.
The investigation began when Moyer’s neighbor reported to police that someone had been repeatedly entering her home and stealing items since the summer of 2025. The victim told police she recently installed security cameras in her living area to capture the intruder.
On the morning of May 31, the victim awoke and noticed her driver’s license inside her wallet had been turned upside down. Upon further inspection, she discovered two gift cards stored in her kitchen wallet – valued at $11 for Giant and $13 for Hoss’s – were missing. The victim told police she was asleep upstairs at the time of the theft and that her doors had been locked. She noted that she had previously given Moyer a spare key in April to care for her cats, which was supposed to have been returned.
Security camera footage provided to police showed a man identified as Moyer slowly opening the front door and stepping into the living room shortly after 5:30 a.m. A second video clip recorded a minute later showed Moyer walking into the dining room while using his cell phone as a flashlight to scan the area. A final video clip from 5:42 a.m. showed Moyer approaching the camera, picking it up off a coffee table, and placing it face down on the floor.
Police apprehended Moyer outside his residence that same day. During an interview at the police station, Moyer admitted to entering his neighbor’s residence that morning without permission and confirmed that he still possessed a house key. Moyer also admitted to police that he had entered the home on another occasion about a week prior while he was “high on meth.”
Moyer denied stealing the gift cards. He told police he entered the home at 5:30 a.m. because he believed he heard noises and was worried something was wrong, but he decided to leave without notifying anyone after he heard movement upstairs and was startled by a cat.
Earlier this month, Moyer waived the charges against him to Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas.
