Police say a Schuylkill County man may have been DUI when he drove a motorcycle the wrong way on a Minersville street, causing a two-vehicle crash that left him with serious injuries.
Robert Johnson, 53, of Schuylkill Haven, was riding a 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide east on Carbon St. in the wrong direction at about 11:30 p.m. on June 4, State Police say.
Troopers allege Johnson entered the intersection at N. Front St. without yielding and struck a northbound 2025 Jeep Wrangler. Following the initial impact, police say Johnson fell from the motorcycle and landed in the roadway east of where the bike came to its final rest.
Johnson suffered suspected serious injuries and was transported by Minersville EMS to Geisinger Medical Center.
The occupants of the Jeep – a man and woman from Ashland – sustained suspected minor injuries and were not taken from the scene for medical treatment. Both were wearing lap and shoulder belts, police say.
Both vehicles sustained disabling damage.
An investigation into whether Johnson was DUI at the time of the crash remains under investigation. Court records show no charges against Johnson related to this incident.
State Police-Frackville were assisted at the scene by the Minersville Police Dept., Saint Clair Police Dept., PSP-Reading, PSP-Jonestown, Minersville Fire & Rescue, and Hammer’s Towing.
