Kids Fess Up to Council Over Graffiti on Park Bench in Schuylkill County

“Pass it on … this isn’t right,” council president says.

Two Frackville youths approached Borough Council members Thursday night to confess that they are partly responsible for graffiti at Memorial Park.

The siblings said they and some of their friends damaged a bench at the park.

“Us and a bunch of kids were drawing on it,” one of the kids told Council President Ron Jordan.

The graffiti done by these two and their friends has since been cleaned, they said.

“We do appreciate that,” Jordan said. “The being learning is that you pass along to others that this it isn’t right. People pay for that. People use the park.”

Jordan told the kids that younger kids use Memorial Park and that their parents – who brought their children to the council meeting to confess – likely used the swings and other fun things at the park when they were young, too.

“As long as there’s old kids vandalizing them, then eventually the younger kids can’t use them,” he said.

For fessing up in the manner they did, Jordan said “it takes a lot of guts” but said they still had work to do in spreading the word to stop the damage to the park.

Those on hand for Thursday’s meeting gave the children a round of applause for coming forward. Mayor John Morgan also thanked the kids’ parents for bringing their to the meeting to make their admission of guilt.
