A Schuylkill County woman faces a felony assault charge after police say she stabbed her ex in the shoulder during an argument at a Wayne Township residence on Wednesday.
Rebecca Lynn Callaway, 34, of Schuylkill Haven, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault, and harassment. Callaway was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison after being unable to post $100,000 bail set by Magisterial District Judge Christian Lengel.
Police say they responded to Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital shortly after 8 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of a man with a stab wound to his left shoulder. A witness at the scene reported that the victim claimed he backed into a knife, while Callaway – who initially told hospital staff that she was the victim’s daughter – said that the victim’s current girlfriend had stabbed him.
During an interview at the hospital, the victim told police that he and Callaway, his ex-girlfriend, had a verbal argument that turned physical at a Frieden Manor residence. The victim said they were arguing about alcohol in the home because Callaway was scheduled to meet with her probation officer.
The victim said Callaway tried to punch him but he blocked that before slapping her face, police say. That’s when Callaway pulled a knife from a kitchen drawer and stood there. Police say the victim was walking down the hallway when he was stabbed, later telling investigators he initially believed Callaway tripped and stabbed him accidentally.
Police obtained a search warrant for the residence and discovered a knocked-over chair in the kitchen, a bloody paper towel in a bathroom, and a rinsed black knife with a wooden handle in the sink. Police say the victim identified the knife as the weapon used to stab him. The victim’s one-inch laceration was treated and repaired with skin glue, police say.
