A 31-year-old Schuylkill County man died Sunday evening after he was struck by a vehicle in Rush Township.
State Police say the collision occurred when the pedestrian, identified as Austin Didgen entered a roadway outside of a designated crosswalk.
The crash happened just after 6 p.m. in the 200 block of Grier Ave. According to police, Didgen was struck by a northbound 2020 Honda Civic. Police state the front driver’s side of the vehicle hit Didgen.
Troopers say they provided immediate aid at the scene before EMS personnel transported Didgen to St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital. Police were later advised that he was pronounced deceased.
The driver, identified by police as 22-year-old Erick M. Chavez, of Freeland, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. His vehicle sustained minor damage as a result of the crash.
Court records show no charges have been filed against Chavez, as of Monday.
Multiple agencies assisted State Police at the scene, including Ryan Township EMS, Tamaqua EMS, MEDEVAC 4, and fire department personnel. The Troop L Forensic Services Unit, Collision and Accident Reconstruction Units also assisted with the investigation.
