A Schuylkill County man has been jailed after he allegedly trespassed into the Tamaqua Police Chief’s home.
Jarrod Bowman, 39, a homeless man living in Tamaqua, has been charged with a felony count of criminal trespass and a misdemeanor count of defiant trespass. He’s currently being held on $25,000 bail at Schuylkill County Prison.
Shortly after 10 a.m., Tamaqua Police Officer Keith Harig says he was on patrol when he received a dispatch from Schuylkill County Communications Center regarding a suspicious male wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans looking into yards and then laying down in the middle of Lincoln St.
Harig says as he arrived in the area, he did not see anyone laying in the middle of the street. He then encountered Rush Township Police Chief Rick Weaver who asked him about the identity of the man exiting the home of Tamaqua Police Chief Michael Hobbs.
When looking in his rear-view mirror, Harig says he noticed a man matching the description of the suspicious person looking into yards. Harig says he yelled out, “Hey Jarrod, come here!” and Bowman walked over to his vehicle. When asked if he’d been speaking to Hobbs, Bowman said he was and Harig dismissed him.
Bowman then walked back to Hobbs’ home and entered through the rear door. Harig says he then called Hobbs immediately and asked if he’d been speaking to Bowman. Hobbs said he hadn’t and and Harig told the chief that he’d just walked in the back door of his house.
Harig and Weaver then approached Hobbs’ home and said they could hear the Tamaqua chief yelling at Bowman as he had him placed on the ground. Harig then cuffed Bowman and took him into custody.
