A Pottsville man died late Sunday night after succumbing to injuries he suffered in a Berks County vehicle crash. The driver of that vehicle is currently under investigation for driving while under the influence.
State Police-Reading say they responded to a reported one-vehicle crash along Route 183, near 4th St., in Bernville just before 2 a.m. on Sunday. At the scene, Troopers saw a black Tesla sedan that had struck a tree. Police say the Tesla was traveling south on Route 183 when it went into the northbound lane and struck a tree.
The passenger in the vehicle – identified as 23-year-old Keenan Cryts, of Pottsville – suffered severe injuries in the crash and was rushed to Reading Hospital for treatment. At 11:19 p.m. Sunday, police say Cryts succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle – who remains unidentified by police (as of noon Monday, May 25) other than being a 23-year-old male from Pottsville – is suspected of operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. An investigation is ongoing, police say.
That driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash but Cryts was not.
