A Schuylkill County woman was charged this week with stealing a rental car for months and causing nearly $20,000 in damage to it.
State Police say they were called to Enterprise Rentals in North Manheim Township back on March 11 for a report of a stolen vehicle. The manager at the Enterprise location told police that Rachel Fidler, 43, of Girardville, had rented a Nissan there but her insurance stopped paying for it back on Christmas Day.
Numerous attempts to contact Fidler were allegedly made, including phone calls and certified letters, but she didn’t respond. Fidler also did not pay for renting the vehicle after insurance stopped picking up the bill.
State Police say they went to Fidler’s home and located the Nissan parked outside. It was towed back to Enterprise. Police note that the vehicle had damage to its 11 o’clock position.
Later, the manager at Enterprise informed police that an estimate for the damage caused to the vehicle was $19,721.08.
Fidler has been charged with felony counts of theft of leased property and theft by unlawful taking as well as misdemeanor counts of unauthorized se of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief. A preliminary hearing is schedule for May 26 before Senior Magisterial District Judge Casimir Kosciolek in Orwigsburg.
