Aqua Pennsylvania urges customers in Shenandoah and outlying areas that are seeing a restoration of normal water pressure today to exercise conservation.
The company asks that customers limit their non-essential water use to allow the system to recover fully.
Still, there are about 100 customers in Lost Creek that still have no water service.
On Wednesday night, a large leak – the company estimates it to be about 600 gallons per minute – was found inside a former Woolworth’s department store building on N. Main St. in Shenandoah.
The leak was stopped at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aqua says.
Earlier Thursday, Shenandoah Borough Manager Mike Cadau told Coal Region Canary there was a 6-inch fire line into the building that was leaking.
Aqua and the borough are hoping that was the source of the water service interruption that started on Monday. But that can’t be certain until the system is fully restored.
Emergency water supplies are still available at Shenandoah Borough Hall. Aqua has two tanker trucks with potable water available until 9 p.m. Thursday. Customers are asked to bring their own containers for filling.
A Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for Aqua customers in that area until further notice.
