Schuylkill County Man Charged with Sending Threatening Texts

Mark Rose, 48, already in jail on similar charges

A Schuylkill County man has been charged with sending text messages threatening fatal violence.

Court documents show that State Police filed charges against Mark Rose, 47, of Pine Grove, on Aug. 8 in District Court over messages he allegedly sent to one person threatening the lives of two others back in April.

Police say they spoke with the victims and the recipient of those texts on April 18. The recipient shared the text messages purportedly sent by Rose with police.

The messages read (verbatim, with names redacted):

  • “Yous need to let (NAME) (NAME) and (NAME) know something.”
  • “At some point I bury them”
  • “Im being slowly pushed towards ending their lives”
  • “The odds are somewhere I break and kill them for real”
  • “I probably wont be able to send all the people I need to hell”
  • “they absolutely deserve death by my hand”
  • “I just dont know if Im going to make it and not break and kill them then myself.”
  • “you tell them bastards this their lives are very much in jeopardy.”
  • “its more likely Im going to violantly end their lives.”
  • “Im going to make them remember my boys names by cutting their names in their flesh all the way to the bone”
  • “the thought of closing their eyes forever I never wanted anything more”
  • “Their isnt a person on earth that despises or want to kill anyone than I do them.”
  • “Know that if I kill them you helped a little by not handling things correctly playing favorites choosing the wrong side.”
  • “You tell them their in the crosshairs the axe can come down any day or night and theirs not a dam thing they can do about it other then scream bloody murder as I etch my boys names into them and make them pay for crossing me.”
  • “Chances are its going to happen at some point Im having a very difficult time not putting on the war paint right now and dealing with this right now”

The recipient told police he believed the messages were coming from Rose’s phone.

Police say they attempted to make contact with Rose between April 18 and July 9 but it wasn’t until July 10 that they found him in Tremont. Rose was shown screenshots of the text messages and he reportedly told police, “I didn’t say anything directly threatening in there. I wasn’t going over there.”

He added that the intended recipients of those messages had nothing to fear but, as police quote him, “They should fear the devil because they are evil people.”

Police say they asked Rose for a good phone number on which to reach him and he allegedly provided the same number that sent the text messages.

For this case, Rose is being charged with two counts of making terroristic threats, two counts of misdemeanor harassment, and two summary counts of harassment. He’ll have to answer to these charges at a preliminary hearing scheduled for late-September.

Rose is in Schuylkill County Prison on $10,000 bail on a separate case out of Pine Grove in which he’s charged with misdemeanor terroristic threats and harassment. Those charges were recently held over for Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas.
