After today, it appears the run of rainy weather comes to an end. But the beginning of summer is coming in very summer-like here in Schuylkill County.
As of now, National Weather Service has the coal region enduring its first heat wave early next week. We’re looking at a string of at least four days in a row with a high temperature at or above 90 degrees, starting on Sunday.
The next chance for any rain after today will be Wednesday.
Here’s the latest 7-day forecast for Pottsville from National Weather Service …
Today:Â A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a high near 83. Light southwest wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tonight:Â Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m, then a slight chance of showers between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 60. West wind 7 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 81. West wind around 8 mph.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 90.
Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 71.
Monday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 92.
Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 72.
Tuesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 93.
Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 72.
Wednesday: A chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
