Four people have expressed interest in filling a vacant seat on Pottsville City Council until the end of this year.
Those who’ve submitted letters of interest are Catherine Mahon, Keegan Brennan, Scott Price, and Jonathan Marsh. Price and Marsh are running for election to City Council in the 2025 Municipal General Election in November.
The seat all four are vying for was vacated last month when then-City Councilman William Messaros was selected by the remaining council members to be Mayor. The Mayor’s seat was vacated in early May when Mark Atkinson resigned abruptly, citing health reasons.
Atkinson became Mayor when Dave Clews stepped down from the job in October 2024, also due to health reasons.
This November, the Mayor and two council seats are up for election. Messaros’ term as Mayor also ends at the end of 2025.
Pottsville has 30 days to fill the seat vacated by Messaros. A vote is expected on Monday to fill the vacant council seat. A majority is needed to appoint someone to fill the vacancy.
