Six baseball and softball teams representing schools in Schuylkill County begin their pursuit of PIAA gold on Monday.
Here is a look at the First Round matchups for each of those teams …
Class 1A Baseball
Nativity BVM (10-11) captured the District 11 championship with a convincing victory over Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg.
The Hilltoppers will now face Dock Mennonite (15-4), the District 1 champion, on Monday at 4 p.m. at Bear Stadium in Boyertown.
Class 2A Baseball
Tri-Valley (19-6) needed a big seventh inning to outlast Schuylkill Haven to capture gold in District 11 Class 2A. That win got them an invite to the PIAA tournament.
On Monday, the Bulldogs will face District 2 champion Holy Redeemer. First pitch is 1 p.m. on Monday at Wilkes University.
Class 1A Softball
Tri-Valley (18-6) breezed through the District 11 tournament, defeating Marian Catholic for the title.
Now, they’ll face District 2 champs Holy Cross (21-1) in the First Round of the PIAA tournament on Monday at 1 p.m. at University of Scranton.
Class 2A Softball
Williams Valley (21-2) got by Minersville Area to win the District 11 Class 2A. They now face District 3 champs Halifax Area (12-9) in the First Round of the PIAA playoffs.
The First Round game gets underway at 4 p.m. on Monday at Halifax Area High School.
Class 3A Softball
Pine Grove Area (23-2) needed almost ever at-bat it had to get this far. The team’s seventh-inning comeback win in the District 11 championship game on Friday has earned the Lady Cards a date in the First Round of the PIAA tournament.
On Monday at 5 p.m., Pine Grove Area will take on Trinity (16-4), the third-place team out of District 3, at home.
Class 4A Softball
North Schuylkill (17-5) was the only team from Schuylkill County to make the PIAA tournament without winning District 11 gold. Now the Lady Spartans will have to go up against District 12 champs Conwell Egan (13-4) in the First Round of states.
The First Round matchup gets underway at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Conwell Egan High School.
