A Schuylkill County woman was found burning and deceased on a road in Hazleton early Sunday morning.
According to new information from Hazleton City Police, a body was found along Club 40 Road, near E. Broad St. in the city at about 7 a.m. Sunday. First reports were that a mannequin was on fire.Â
When firefighters extinguished the flames, they discovered that it was a human body, not a mannequin. In an update Monday night, police say that it was the body of a Schuylkill County woman. Her identity has not been released.
The Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office has launched an investigation into what’s being labeled as a suspicious death.
An autopsy has been scheduled by Luzerne County Acting Coroner Kaitlin Keating on Tuesday, April 29, at 9 a.m. at the Luzerne County Morgue. Dr. Charles Siebert will perform the autopsy, according to Hazleton police.
Hazleton City Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit and the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Investigation Unit are actively investigating this incident.
