THE LATEST: Search for Two Suspects Ongoing Near Saint Clair; Pursuit Starting in Cumberland County Escalated When One Suspect Fired at Police

Developing story …

The search for two juvenile suspects who led police on a multi-county pursuit that ended at the Coal Creek Commerce Center in Saint Clair Sunday is ongoing.

Two suspects are in custody but according to the last word received from State Police Troop L Public Information Officer Ethan Brownback, two juvenile males remain on the lam.

(UPDATE: The suspects have been identified, at least in part, by police. Read more about that here.)

Police had set up a perimeter around the Saint Clair area at about 2 p.m. A heavy police presence, including State and local forces, worked on the ground to search for the two suspects on the run. Two State Police helicopters circled the area above. As the search continued into Sunday night, a single State Police helicopter continued in the search effort (as of 10:30 p.m.).

The incident forced the closure of Coal Creek Commerce Center. Route 61 traffic was temporarily halted in the area but after that was restored, access to the shopping center was still restricted.

This entire incident started at about 12:40 p.m. in Cumberland County, according to a statement released by Troop H Public Information Officer Megan Frazer. At that time, on Interstate 81-North, near Mile Marker 57.1 in Silver Spring Township, a motorist spotted a passenger in a red Toyota Tundra pickup truck pointing a firearm at other motorists.

The Tundra was spotted by a Trooper from State Police-Harrisburg on I-81 near Mile Marker 78 in West Hanover Township, Dauphin County. That Trooper initiated a traffic stop. The Tunda reportedly pulled off on the shoulder of the highway but then fled a short time later.

The truck then got off I-81 and in the 7000 block of Manor Drive in West Hanover Township, Dauphin County, police say an occupant inside fired multiple rounds from a pistol at Troopers in pursuit. One patrol vehicle was hit, police say.

The vehicle then got back on I-81 heading north until it reached the Frackville exit in Schuylkill County. The chase then led to the shopping center in Saint Clair when the vehicle ultimately became disabled near Walmart.

All four people inside fled on foot. Two of the suspects were taken into custody and two others remain on the loose.

State Police-Frackville is now in charge of apprehending the two fugitive suspects.

DEVELOPING STORY: Information in this article and future updates comes directly from State Police and information gathered at the scene in Saint Clair. Updates will be provided here as information becomes available.
