Police say a woman had her vehicle in self-driving mode while she did her makeup when it crashed on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County on Friday morning.
According to State Police-Frackville, the crash happened at about 8 a.m. along I-81 South in Foster Township. At that time, a 2025 Honda Civic driven by Jassiell Smith, 26, of Hazleton, was in self-driving mode doing about 65 mph. Smith was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police add.
While this was happening, Smith lost control of the vehicle and it went onto the shoulder of the interstate. The vehicle went into the median and hit a tree, police say.
The vehicle took on considerable damage. Police add that Smith was taken from the scene by Minersville EMS and transported to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for treatment of injuries. The severity of Smith’s injuries is unknown, according to police.
