A Mahanoy City man was sentenced to an additional 1-3 years in state prison for leading police on a high-speed pursuit earlier this year.
Schuylkill County Judge Chris Hobbs told Travis John he showed no remorse and had no respect of the criminal justice system and law enforcement as he imposed the sentence last week at the Courthouse.
John appeared remotely for the sentencing hearing. He was convicted in September on charges that he led police on a high-speed pursuit, sometimes topping speeds of 100 mph as it sped from Mahanoy City, onto Interstate 81, and into Luzerne County.
During that pursuit, which police eventually abandoned, a State Police trooper was pushed off the road by a tractor-trailer, based on information gleaned during the sentencing hearing.
The pursuit began when Mahanoy City Police spotted John driving in the borough and knew he was wanted for failing to appear for a prison sentence earlier in 2024. John was supposed to begin serving a 9-23 months sentence for drug possession with intent to deliver.
Hobbs’ sentence imposed last week is to be served consecutive to the initial conviction on the drug charge.
