A massive brush fire is burning on land off Valley Rd. in Cass Twp.
At about 9 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the area of Valley Rd. and Breaker Rd., between Duncott and Heckscherville, for a brush fire.
Initial reports gleaned from emergency radio dispatches indicated the brush fire was about 3 acres in size at the beginning.
The location of the fire seems to be making especially difficult for firefighters to reach. UTVs are being used to access the area and brush trucks from across Schuylkill County are at the scene.

Drought conditions along with shifting, gusting winds Friday night are surely are making it difficult to contain the brush fire.

Just before 11 p.m., the incident commander at the scene admitted to Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatchers, “This is beyond us right now.”
The county appears to be leaning on resources from the state’s Dept. of Conservation of Natural Resources for additional help.
First responders are being pulled from the scene, establishing a perimeter, to allow the fire to burn itself out as much as possible.
Prior to that order, based on dispatches on emergency radio, bulldozers were being used to move land to help control the spread of the fire.
