A Schuylkill County woman is facing felony trespassing charges after an encounter with motel employees and police earlier this month.
According to a criminal complaint, State Police were summoned to the Country Squire motel along Route 61 in North Manheim Township on Sept. 2 for a report of a woman who refused to leave the property.
Police say two employees of the motel accused Danielle Weist, with no listed address, of trespassing. They said Weist checked in at the Country Squire, paying for one night on Aug. 29.
However, at 12:13 p.m. on Aug. 30, employees at Country Squire reported that Weist refused to leave the room she’d rented. Check-out time was 11 a.m. That’s when the employees phoned police.
When police arrived, they say they ordered Weist to leave and not return or she’d be cited for trespassing.
A few days later, on the night of Sept. 1 and morning of Sept. 2, one Country Squire employee told police he saw Weist exit from a back room of the business, where he believes she’d been staying. Weist then allegedly went to the restaurant connected to the Country Squire.
As police were talking to the employee at that time, Weist was observed exiting the restaurant. Police say she looked like she was under the influence of a drug, evidenced by quick, fidgeting motions.
Police asked Weist if she was supposed to be at Country Squire at that time. She said she’d paid to stay at Room 108. She was then asked if she had a key card but didn’t furnish one to police. Instead, Weist said she lost the key card but the “Mexican” employee at the front desk of Country Squire said she could stay there.
Later during the Sept. 2 interview, Weist allegedly told police that she’d stayed at the motel the night prior and forced open a door to get inside.
A search of room 108 allegedly contained several of Weist’s items. Weist’s purse was also searched by police and a make-up container was found that contained a plastic bag that allegedly contained methamphetamine.
Weist was arraigned before District Magistrate AJ Serina on Sept. 2. She was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison on $15,000 bail, which she has yet to post.
Felony charges of criminal trespass along with misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and drug possession have been filed against Weist. She’ll answer to those at a preliminary hearing set for Sept. 24.
