Schuylkill County Man Charged with Assaulting State Troopers

A Pine Grove area man is in Schuylkill County Prison after he allegedly assaulted two State Troopers trying to arrest him on Wednesday.

According to an affidavit filed by State Police-Schuylkill Haven, Troopers were called to a residence in Pine Grove Township at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, for a report of a verbal dispute involving Travis Reber, 35. Reber had allegedly punched holes in a wall of the living room prior to police arrival.

While en route, Troopers say they learned that Reber was under the influence of drugs – suspected to be meth, though he is also suspected of abusing heroin – and causing damage inside the home. They also learned that Reber was wanted on warrants out of Lebanon and York counties.

Upon their arrival, it was learned that Reber was in the basement of the home. Troopers say they asked Reber to come upstairs but he ignored those commands. In the basement, police say they attempted to place Reber under arrest but he physically resisted by pulling away from them, resulting in a struggle.

Reber reportedly kicked two Troopers as they attempted to get him under their control. Kicks were landed to their chest, abdomen, and legs. One Trooper sustained a laceration to his right arm and right knee.

In order to get Reber in custody, one Trooper at the scene was forced to deploy his Taser multiple times.

Reber was arraigned Thursday morning before District Magistrate Judge Stephen Bayer. He’s been charged with two counts of first-degree felony aggravated assault, two counts of misdemeanor simple assault, a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, and summary offenses for harassment and criminal mischief.

Bayer set bail at $50,000 cash and remanded Reber to Schuylkill County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 3 before Judge David Rossi.
