Travis Blankenhorn is returning to The Show.
The Washington Nationals are expected to promote the Pottsville native to their Major League roster today, according to The Washington Post. He’ll join the club ahead of their game tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Blankenhorn last appeared with the Nats in 2023. He played in 10 games last year.
He did homer in his first game up with Washington last season.
For his MLB career, he’s hitting .167 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. Blankenhorn hit his first career Major League home run as a member of the New York Mets in 2021, sending a ball literally out of PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Blankenhorn got the call to the bigs when the Nationals traded away Lane Thomas to the Cleveland Guardians on Monday, ahead of today’s Trade Deadline. The team also just traded outfielder Jesse Winker to the Mets.
That opened up a pair of roster spots.
This year, Blankenhorn has hit a career-high 24 home runs with the Rochester Red Wings in the International League. That’s the third-most home runs in all of Triple-A baseball and the most among any hitter in the Nationals organization. He has homered in 3 consecutive games coming into the team’s series this week with the Omaha Storm Chasers.
Blankenhorn was also recently voted the Red Wings First-half MVP.
