An Ashland woman was killed Saturday evening when she stepped in front of a vehicle traveling on Centre St. in the borough.
State Police-Frackville say the 71-year-old woman – who hasn’t been identified by name – was walking from south to north on Centre St. in Ashland at about a quarter past six o’clock Saturday evening.
Police say the woman stepped into the westbound driving lane of the street – aka Route 54 – and was struck by a Jeep Wrangler. The woman, police say, did not attempt to cross the street at a crosswalk and did not yield to traffic.
The driver of the Jeep Wrangler attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the woman, police say, but was hit by the front end of the vehicle.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene in Ashland.
