Police: 2 Bombs Found in Girardville Apartment

State Police bomb squad called in

Police say they discovered 2 bombs in a Girardville apartment on Wednesday.

State Police in Frackville report that Girardville Police were summoned to a vacated apartment at 30 W. Main St. just before 3:30 p.m. yesterday. A potential explosive device had been found in the ceiling of that apartment.

An investigation of the device revealed it was a “homemade pipe bomb with signs of electrical detonation.”

At that time, the Hazardous Device and Explosives Section (HDES) of State Police were called to the scene in Girardville. Members of that team neutralized the pipe bomb.

While the team was clearing the apartment, police say, a second bomb was found, also in the ceiling. It, too, was neutralized.

An investigation into who left these devices in the apartment is ongoing. Police are asking for help in that inquiry. Anyone with information is asked to call 570-874-5300.
