Kulpmont Man Killed in I-81 Crash in Schuylkill County

Crash happened just before 8 Friday morning.

A Northumberland County man was killed Friday morning in a crash on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.

According to State Police in Jonestown, Lebanon County, the crash happened just before 8 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the interstate in Pine Grove Township, near Mile Marker 99.8.

Police say 54-year-old Ronald Spangler was driving a Dodge Caravan headed south on I-81. In front of Spangler was a tractor-trailer that was slowing down due to a slowing vehicle in front of it.

Spangler didn’t slow down enough in time and ran into the back of truck, he and his vehicle getting pinned under the truck’s rear bumper.

The Schuylkill County Coroner’s office was called to the scene and pronounced Spangler dead.
