Pottsville native Travis Blankenhorn will start the 2022 season with the Triple-A Syracuse Mets.
Blankenhorn was assigned to the Triple-A team back on March 22. He recently signed a 1-year contract with the Mets. He’s currently on the Mets 40-man roster and could be promoted.
This season, Blankenhorn will wear the uniform number of 73 and is listed as the second baseman.
He played in 23 Major League games in 2021, including hitting his career home run with the New York Mets at Pittsburgh.
In the Minors, Blankenhorn hit .246 with 10 home runs and 35 RBI. He’s got a total of 66 career Minor League homers at all levels.
Blankenhorn was originally a 2015 third-round draft pick (80th overall) of the Minnesota Twins.
Syracuse opens the 2022 season at home on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

- April 12-17: at Columbus
- April 19-24: vs. Worcester
- April 26-30: at Rochester
Local fans will have a chance to see Blankenhorn in action nearby when the Mets visit the RailRiders from May 10-15.
