Launch Pottsville Finalist – The Chopping Block Axe Throwing Bar

Pottsville Area Development Corp. another video introduction for a finalist in the Launch Pottsville business contest, The Chopping Block. The Chopping Block is a proposed axe-throwing social entertainment business.

Launch Pottsville’s goal is to develop new business owners in the city. PADCO believes the winners of this year’s contest, to be decided in a few months, will be up and running before the end of the year.

The initial entry field for the Launch Pottsville contest has been narrowed down and the public can learn a little bit about each of the finalists. This is the second video introduction from a Launch Pottsville finalist.

Launch Pottsville Business Contest Finalist – The Chopping Block

The Chopping Block is founded by Alex Chivinski and John Marsh. Chivinski is a Schuylkill County native while Marsh’s hometown is Biloxi, Mississippi. Marsh says he’s “married into Pottsville” and recently bought a home here.

The founders of The Chopping Block want the business to be an axe-throwing social venue with a full-service bar and lounge.

“We’ve noticed that a lot of people have been going out of the area to find other options for entertainment and stuff to do,” Chivinski says. “We’d really like people to do some of that stuff here in the city.”

“We love the idea for Schuylkill County and Pottsville because we think that social entertainment is an industry that’s underserved here,” Marsh adds. “We really feel like it could provide value to the city of Pottsville.

“It’s really a unique experience and we want to go all out,” Marsh says.

These videos are part of Phase 2 of the Launch Pottsville competition, a chance for the public to learn about the . The winner at the end gets $150,000 in cash and pro bono services to help start their business.

During Phase 2, the prospective business owners work with local mentors to refine their business plan and goals. Scouting potential physical locations within the city is also part of the process.

The contest culminated with a Shark Tank-style elevator pitch presentation in front of an audience at Schuylkill YMCA on April 28.
