A New York man is facing a felony strangulation charge following an incident in Pottsville over the weekend.

Pottsville Police say Elit M. CalderonBruno, 22, of New York City, hit his pregnant girlfriend, an unidentified woman from Pottsville, several times and wrapped both of his hands around her neck while the two were fighting on Line St. Saturday afternoon, Oct. 23.

When police arrived at the scene in the 200 block of Line St., they say the woman reported being in a shouting match with CalderonBurno. Things escalated between the two and CalderonBruno hit the woman several times about the head and face. CalderonBruno then grabbed a hold of her throat, getting both hands around her neck and applying pressure. The woman told police she blacked out briefly.

As the fight progressed, CalderonBruno then tried to drag her inside a home on Line St. but the woman resisted, she tells police. During that struggle, the woman says she injured her wrist.

While the woman was looked over by EMS arriving at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, CalderonBruno fled the scene. Pottsville PD is asking for anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact them at 570-628-3792 or to contact their local law enforcement agency.

Police have charged CalderonBruno with second-degree felony strangulation and misdemeanor counts of assault and reckless endangerment.
