Former longtime District Judge in western Schuylkill County Earl Matz has passed away at the age of 85. Matz served on the bench for 25 years before retiring in 2001.
Matz served the Magisterial district based in Tremont.
“It was work he loved to do and loved helping people,” his obituary states.
Matz, of Pine Grove, once ran in an election for Schuylkill County Sheriff and also served as a Game Warden. He was a carpenter and loved going to casinos and listening to the Willie’s Roadhouse station on satellite radio.
Matz was a member of several local organizations.
After graduating from Cressona High School in 1954, Matz enlisted in the US Army and joined the Army band while stationed in Germany during the Korean war.
