Police have identified the man who died in a motorcycle crash on Route 901 last week in Schuylkill County.
They say 20-year-old Gregory Calkins, of Pottsville, was driving his motorcycle on the southbound side of the highway last week when he was hit by a tractor-trailer. Calkins died at the scene of the crash, which happened at about 5:20 p.m. on Sept. 23.
Police say they’ve filed a careless driving charge against the tractor-trailer operator, whom they identify as William D. Thomas II, of Bowie, MD. They say Thomas, who was on the northbound side of Route 901, didn’t see Calkins approaching on the southbound side and steered his truck into the motorcycle while trying to access the Interstate 81 on-ramp.
