The 2021 Schuylkill League high school soccer season got underway over the weekend with several teams in action for non-league play.

The highlight of the weekend was the Coach Mark Wyllie Memorial Tournament at Pine Grove Area High School. The tournament was created to honor Wyllie, the 29-year Cardinals coach, who passed away last year following a battle with cancer.

During his time as Pine Grove coach, Wyllie racked up 340 wins and a Schuylkill League championship (1996) and a District XI title (2003).

On Saturday, Pine Grove won its first match of the 4-team tournament with a 1-0 result over Wilson.

The Cardinals then took down Schuylkill League rival Pottsville in the championship match, also by a 1-0 score.

The Crimson Tide took down Northern Lebanon in its opening match of the tournament, 2-0.
