Fire severely damaged a home on Pottsville’s East Side on Saturday.
First responders from Pottsville and Schuylkill Haven responded to 457 E. Arch St. at around 11:30 p.m. When firefighters first arrived, they could see flames shooting out of the third floor of the building at the corner of Jackson and Arch streets.
About 30 minutes later, the flames were under control and in less than hour, it was under control.
Damage was mostly limited to the third floor of the home.
Emergency radio dispatches indicated two people, including a child, ran outside the home as the fire broke out. Numerous pets were reportedly still inside.
By about 1 a.m., it was unclear exactly how many animals were still inside. An animal rescue crew was on scene and before we left, we saw 2 dogs being removed – alive – from the property.
As of Sunday morning, there’s no word on a cause of the fire. One neighbor told us they heard a loud boom about a half-hour prior to fire crews turning up at the scene.
