These days you really need to be careful of who you meet online. And Schuylkill County man recently learned that lesson.
According to State Police in Schuylkill Haven, a 69-year-old Cressona man recently met a woman on an online dating site.
At least, that’s what he thought.
The woman claimed to be from Malaysia. It’s unknown how long the virtual relationship lasted before this so-called Malaysian woman asked the Cressona man for money. “She” said the money was needed to get her inheritance, police report.
The Cressona man apparently gave her the money she asked for and he soon realized that he’d been had.
That so-called Malaysian woman used the personal information the Cressona man shared with her to open an unemployment compensation claim under his name.
