Barbara A. Sterner, 96 – Former Mayor of Cressona

Barbara A. Sterner, 96, of Cressona, passed away Tuesday, September 8th, at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Schuylkill, E. Norwegian St., Pottsville.

Born in Cressona, on April 9, 1924, a daughter of the late Eva (McGovern) and Phillip Sterner.

She was a graduate of Cressona High School, class of 1942 and was formerly employed as an operator for Bell Telephone. She also served as Mayor of Cressona.

Barbara was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven and a life member of the Goodwill Fire Co., Cressona.

She is survived by cousins from Harrisburg and her friends and caretakers Jean and Charles Biertempfel, Cressona.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday, September 14th at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Schuylkill Haven with Rev. Msgr. Edward S. Zemanik officiating.

A viewing will be held prior from 9:30 am – 10:15 am.

Interment will be at Saint Ambrose Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
