On Wednesday, Pennsylvania State Rep. Brian Sims took to Facebook to deliver a foul-mouthed rant about a fellow representative who’d been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Apparently, Sims was upset because he believed the Republican Caucus in Harrisburg intentionally hid the fact that one of their members had tested positive. In reality, he’s just pissed off that he wasn’t notified and therefore, not the center of attention.

First, a little back story:
- State Rep. Andrew Lewis, a Republican from Dauphin County, tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by contracting the Chinese virus.
- Lewis learned of the diagnosis on May 20, two days after getting tested on the 18th.
- Once Lewis learned he’d tested positive, he informed the Republican Caucus HR department, who then notified anyone with whom he’d come in contact with, per the Dept. of Health guidelines.
- Lewis and others went into a self-quarantine. He’s recovered and is back at work.
Well, that wasn’t good enough for Sims and several other Democrats who say they weren’t informed of Lewis’ diagnosis until a week after the positive test result came back.
It turns out, as Health Secretary Rachel Levine said on Friday at a news conference, the Republicans followed proper protocol handling the diagnosis. That includes notifying anyone with whom Lewis had enough contact with to potentially spread the virus.
But, to get in the spotlight and attempt to politicize the issue ahead of a House vote to end the Disaster Emergency declaration, Sims retired to his personal office Wednesday, got in front of a webcam and played to his base with this ridiculous video rant.
Throughout the rant, he repeatedly used the F-word as he feigned rage at the alleged “cover-up” by the Republicans. At one point, to prove he was really pissed, he slams his hands on his desk, shaking the camera.
He screeched, “Holy shit!”
Sims says House Speaker Mike Turzai should immediately resign. He even said he should be jailed for intentionally covering up Sims’ diagnosis and endangering public health.
He attacked State Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon County) for not getting tested after going under self-quarantine.
Diamond responded to that attack by saying his doctor told him it wasn’t necessary. He issued this statement on Twitter:
By the end, Sims starts rambling on about “Republican gerrymandering” being the big problem … completely politicizing the issue, still pissed because he wasn’t informed of another person’s health issues when he had no right to know.
